HUMAN SEXUALITY
Human Sexuality Unit
Human Sexuality encompasses all aspects of the self: biological, psychological, sociocultural and ethical. Sexual feeling and thoughts are a normal part of human experience.
Young people need to learn about sexuality in a positive way and acquire the skill necessary for emotional growth and maturation before making a commitment to a sexually involved relationship.
A sexually abstinent lifestyle gives students more personal freedom and time to define who they are and who they want to become. The activities in the unit are designed to teach students life skills that can help them to act in their own best interests in all areas of their lives.
Parents (guardians) are the most significant role models in student’s lives. From observations and discussions of and with these adults, children develop many concepts, including ones regarding sexuality, love and affection. Because you are the primary educators of your children, parents and guardians will be involved in the curriculum.
Some of the activities will include homework assignments that are done by parents and students together, giving the students the opportunity to learn about their parents’ beliefs and provide an opportunity for parents to participate in their student’s learning process. Please take the time to complete these homework assignments with your student.
Effective sexuality education provided by you at home and supplemented by the school can help postpone sexual activity. Parents and guardians can become effective allies and supporters of sexuality education.

PARENTAL PARTICIPATION
May I suggest that you and your student take time to define your meaning of sex, sexual contact and abstinence in order to have a clear understanding of your expectations.
Parents:
Uncomfortable talking to your kids about sex?
Don’t worry about being comfortable, just worry about being accurate.
Children learn what to value by watching what their parents set guidelines for.
